Tuscany Trip with ESN Bologna

Cattedrali di marmo bianchissimo e verdi paesaggi mozzafiato, acque blu come zaffiri e vini rossi come rubini.

Il pittore Willem de Kooning diceva: “mi piacerebbe riunire tutti i colori del mondo in un dipinto”. Esiste un posto dove questa magia accade. 

 

Cari amici, ESN Bologna è orgogliosa di presentarvi il VIAGGIO PIU’ RICCO che abbia mai organizzato: non uno (!) non due (!!) ma TRE GIORNI (!!!) di arte, cultura, paesaggi, cibo, vino, relax e puro divertimento attraverso la regione che, più di tutte, definisce l’immaginario del Bel Paese.

PROGRAMMA

 

VENERDÌ 04 APRILE 

 

Partiremo la mattina alla volta di Carrara, città ai piedi delle Alpi Apuane, montagne dalle quali viene estratto il celeberrimo marmo di Carrara. Michelangelo, Bernini, Borromini, Donatello, Canova.. tutti i più grandi scultori italiani hanno usato questo marmo per dare forma al loro genio.

Arrivati in città, per chi vorrà [extra fee base] continueremo verso le montagne dove, accompagnati da una guida professionista, entreremo in una valle unica al mondo dove la mano dell’uomo ha scolpito il paesaggio con secoli di attività estrattiva. Qui, entreremo nel cuore di una montagna, visitando la cava galleria, uno dei posti più belli e suggestivi di tutta Italia (alcune foto qui) e ci verranno spiegate la storia di questo territorio e le tecniche dell’estrazione del marmo, mentre intorno a noi saranno in azione operai e macchinari. 

 

Da una delizia per gli occhi ad una delizia per il palato: la valle di Colonnata è famosa in tutta italia per la sua produzione di lardo, prodotto simbolo di questo territorio. Visiteremo quindi una larderia a conduzione familiare dove ci verranno spiegate le tecniche di produzione di questo salume e dove ci verrà offerto un assaggio. Per chi lo vorrà, si potranno comprare prodotti e panini da consumare come pranzo. 

 

Dopo pranzo, riunificato il gruppo, ci sposteremo a Pisa, città che ospita la Piazza dei Miracoli, patrimonio mondiale dell’umanità, con la sua iconica torre pendente, tra i monumenti italiani più famosi. 

Qui gli amici di ESN ci accompagneranno per le vie della città con un city tour e la sera faremo festa con loro. 

 

 

SABATO 05 APRILE

 

La mattina visiteremo il borgo medievale di San Gimignano, anch’esso Patrimonio dell’umanità UNESCO, che, con le sue 14 torri, ci dà un’immagine di come dovesse essere Bologna secoli fa.

 

Dopo pranzo ci addentreremo nella campagna senese che, con le sue dolci colline, ha i paesaggi più belli di tutta la regione. 

Per chi lo vorrà [extra fee base] visiteremo un’azienda vinicola (alcune foto qui) dove viene prodotto il famoso Chianti. I proprietari ci mostreranno il vigneto e la cantina e ci racconteranno dei processi di coltivazione dell’uva e della produzione del vino. Il tour si concluderà poi con l’assaggio di 3 vini di loro produzione. 

 

Raggiungeremo infine Siena dove pernotteremo, non prima d’aver fatto festa con gli amici di ESN Siena Ges. 

 

 

DOMENICA 06 APRILE

 

La mattina ESN Siena ci guiderà nel city tour alla scoperta di una delle città più belle d’Italia, dove la rivalità tra le sue contrade ha sospeso il tempo, lasciando intatto il suo fascino medioevale. 

 

Dopo pranzo, dopo due giorni e mezzo di viaggio, sarà finalmente il momento per un po’ di relax: raggiungeremo infatti le iconiche Cascate del Mulino delle Terme di Saturnia: una fonte termale all’aria aperta dove l’acqua ha naturalmente la temperatura di 37,5°C. Qui potremo rilassarci, fare il bagno e goderci le ultime ore insieme prima del rientro a Bologna.

SCHEDULE

 

FRIDAY 04 APRIL 

 

We will leave in the morning for Carrara, a city at the foot of the Apuan Alps, mountains from which the famous Carrara marble is extracted. Michelangelo, Bernini, Borromini, Donatello, Canova... all the greatest Italian sculptors have used this marble to give shape to their genius.

Once in the city, for those who want [extra fee base] we will continue towards the mountains where, lead by a professional gide, we will enter a valley unique in the world where the hand of man has sculpted the landscape with centuries of mining activity. Here, we will enter the very heart of a mountain, visiting the tunnel-quarry, one of the most beautiful and evocative places in all of Italy (some photos here) and we will be explained about the history of this territory and the techniques of marble extraction, while workers and machinery will be in action around us.

 

From a delight for the eyes to a delight for the palate: the Colonnata valley is famous throughout Italy for its production of lard, the iconic product of this territory. We will visit a family-run lard shop where we will be explained about the production techniques of this cold cut and where we will be offered a sample. For those who want, we’ll be able to buy products and sandwiches to consume as lunch.

 

After lunch, once the group is reunited, we will move to Pisa, the city that hosts the Piazza dei Miracoli, a world heritage site, with its iconic leaning tower, one of the most famous Italian monuments. Here, our ESN friends will accompany us through the streets of the city on a City Tour and in the evening we will party with them.

 

 

SUNDAY 05 APRIL

 

In the morning we will visit the medieval village of San Gimignano, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which, with its 14 towers, gives us an image of how Bologna must have looked centuries ago.

 

After lunch we will enter the Sienese countryside which, with its gentle hills, has the most beautiful landscapes of the entire region.

For those who want [extra fee base] we will visit a winery (some photos here) where the famous Chianti is produced. The owners will show us the vineyard and the cellar and will tell us about the processes of grape cultivation and wine production. The tour will then end with the tasting of 3 wines of their production.

 

We will finally reach Siena where we will spend the night, but not before having some party with our friends from ESN Siena Ges. 

 

 

SUNDAY 06 APRIL

 

In the morning ESN Siena will guide us on a city tour to discover one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, where the rivalry between its Contrade (districts) has suspended time, leaving its medieval charm intact.

 

After lunch, after two and a half days of travel, it will finally be time for a bit of relaxation: we will reach the iconic Cascate del Mulino of Terme di Saturnia: an outdoor thermal spring where the water naturally has a temperature of 37.5°C. Here we can relax, bathe and enjoy the last hours together before returning to Bologna.
